Child abuse: just baffles me hearing about all the sickos that beat their kids?

and they do it in the name of discipline. give them bruises, broken bones, and permanent psychological problems the rest of their life. I believe the punishments and sentences for these crimes should be much more severe. what is everyone Else's take on this?
